The institute's capability to conduct research and development is officially confirmed by a  certificate issued by the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic. The institute is also a member of the European Network of Building Research Institutes (ENBRI).

In the field of materials engineering, the institute's research and development primarily focus on cements and concretes. The utilization of eco-cements in structural concrete was successfully completed in the ENVIZEO project, the results of which are presented here.  More....

Currently, the institute is the main partner in the NOVACEM project, which aims to exchange experiences and find common solutions in the development of hybrid cements based on inorganic polymers, special cements based on nanoparticle additives, and a new generation of cement using previously unused raw material owned by the Ladce cement plant.
