Metrology

Metrology

Within the framework of the Metrology department, the following activities are carried out:

An authorized metrological workplace conducts verification of specific measuring instruments in accordance with Act No. 157/2018 Coll. on metrology. This includes the verification of testing sieves, force measuring machines, pre-stressed concrete tensioning devices, concrete hardness testers, and steel measuring tapes, within the scope of authorization granted by the Slovak Office of Standards, Metrology and Testing (ÚNMS SR).For the verification of wire mesh testing sieves, we also employ a modern method of sieving the test material using a mixture of glass beads. In the verification of force measuring machines, we offer comprehensive tests including stability, joint function, and load speed tests on the test specimens.

The metrology laboratory, within the scope of its accreditation, calibrates length measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, dial indicators, electric length sensors, steel measuring tapes, harp sieves, and handheld laser distance meters. Furthermore, we calibrate force measuring instruments, devices for measuring air content in fresh concrete, Silver Schmidt concrete hardness testers, and lightweight dynamic plates for testing soil bearing capacity and compaction.

The Metrology department collaborates with our accredited testing facilities in dynamic tests of building structures, as well as in the development and installation of measuring and monitoring systems.

The scope and prices of the offered metrological services can be found HERE.

The employees of the Metrology department collaborate with the testing workplaces of the Institute in measuring noise and vibrations in the living and working environment according to Act No. 355/2007 Coll. on the protection, support, and development of public health. Additionally, the Metrology department collaborates in dynamic tests of building structures.

References: The number of calibrated and verified measuring instruments exceeds 1600 units per year. We primarily provide metrological services to testing laboratories focused on testing construction materials and products. In addition to Slovakia, we have customers in the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, and Slovenia. The Metrology department has been involved in conducting dynamic load tests on more than 50 bridge structures in Slovakia. We have installed measuring and monitoring systems, for example, at the lower gates of the Gabčíkovo navigation chambers and on the roof of the winter stadium in Prešov.
